Creating models of your Web Handling Systems in MapleSim: how Simulation leads to Better Design

Learn about the MapleSim modeling and simulation environment and get started with the new Web Handling component library to perform dynamic simulations on a wide variety of web systems.

Creating a virtual representation of your production roll-to-roll system allows you to explore performance under certain operating conditions, and simulate and resolve quality issues, leading to a more robust machine. With web handling and converting processes, the modeling effort is greatly simplified by applying a specialized tool that relates to the typical rolls, drums and line elements. This is where MapleSim’s Web Handling component library opens the door to using simulation more widely.

In this webinar, Maplesoft Application Engineer, Kayla Rossi walks through the steps to:

  • Create an initial model of your web-handling rollers and spans
  • Apply the pre-built drag-and-drop components to quickly produce a virtual representation of the system,
  • Tune the response of the model to match more closely to the way that your real-life web line works.
  • Apply the simulation across a variety of operating use-cases.

The examples covered by Kayla include modeling dancers, investigating tension zones, accumulators, roller slippage, and how to do system modeling for control validation. Process and design engineers attending this session will learn how simulation can be used to improve R2R line performance and manage tension more effectively.
