 GetDirection - Maple Help

Student[MultivariateCalculus]

 GetDirection
return the direction vector of a line Calling Sequence GetDirection(l) Parameters

l - Line; Line defined in Student[MultivariateCalculus] Returns

 • Vector; Direction Vector of the line Description

 • The GetDirection command obtains a direction vector of the line.
 • The direction vector is not necessarily simplified. Examples

 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{Student}\left[\mathrm{MultivariateCalculus}\right]\right):$
 > $\mathrm{l1}≔\mathrm{Line}\left(\left[3,2,1\right],⟨2,-3,5⟩\right):$
 > $\mathrm{GetPlot}\left(\mathrm{l1}\right)$ > $\mathrm{GetRepresentation}\left(\mathrm{l1}\right)$
 ${t}{·}\left[\begin{array}{c}{2}\\ {-3}\\ {5}\end{array}\right]{+}\left[\begin{array}{c}{3}\\ {2}\\ {1}\end{array}\right]$ (1)
 > $\mathrm{GetDirection}\left(\mathrm{l1}\right)$
 $\left[\begin{array}{c}{2}\\ {-3}\\ {5}\end{array}\right]$ (2)
 > $\mathrm{l2}≔\mathrm{Line}\left(\left[2,0\right],\left[0,-4\right]\right):$
 > $\mathrm{GetPlot}\left(\mathrm{Line}\left(\left[2,0\right],\left[0,-4\right]\right)\right)$ > $\mathrm{GetDirection}\left(\mathrm{l2}\right)$
 $\left[\begin{array}{c}{-2}\\ {-4}\end{array}\right]$ (3) Compatibility

 • The Student[MultivariateCalculus][GetDirection] command was introduced in Maple 17.
