Maple 14 Graphical User Interface (GUI) Updates

This page provides an overview of the following new and updated GUI features. These features are only available in the Standard interface, unless otherwise noted.

New Tool for Worksheet Sharing and Storage

Help Browser

Data Import Assistant

Tables

Task Templates

New Tool for Worksheet Sharing and Storage

You can use the tool in the new MapleCloud palette to share Maple Standard worksheets or selections from Maple Standard worksheets with other users. Using this new tool, you can upload an entire worksheet or a worksheet selection to a Maplesoft-hosted server and then allow other users to download a copy of that worksheet using the MapleCloud palette within their Maple environments. Alternatively, to store content that you prefer not to share with other users, you can upload your content to a user-specific area that only you can access and view.

For more information about the MapleCloud environment, see MapleCloud Overview.

Help Browser

By setting interface(helpbrowser=standard), it is possible to view documentation through the Standard GUI's help browser launched from any interface.  This gives Command-line and Classic users a nicer interface for viewing documentation including hyperlinks, full-text search, and the table of contents.  Additionally, help pages that are written using features specific to Maple's Standard interface and that were previously not viewable in Classic and Command-line help will be accessible. This includes some help pages, example worksheets, and Maple Portal pages.  For more information on the helpbrowser variable, see interface.

Data Import Assistant

Improved CSV Import - The Data Import Assistant has been updated to provide faster, more robust .csv file import. You can access the Data Import Assistant from the Tools menu, by selecting Assistants > Import Data....  For more information about importing files through the Data Import Assistant, see ImportData.

Added Support for Excel 2007 Files - You can now import data from .xlsx files using the Data Import Assistant.

Cleaned-up Workflow - The Data Import Assistant has been updated to provide a more streamlined, user-friendly workflow.

Tables

Table Captions and Numbering - With the table captions feature, you can number the tables in a Maple document and add captions. For more information on generating, displaying, and editing table captions, see Overview of Tables.

Table Cross-References - Elsewhere in the Maple document you can reference a table by its number.  The cross-reference is a link to the table.  Moreover, the table numbering and cross-references are automatically updated as the worksheet changes, similar to equation labeling.  For more information on applying table cross-references, see Overview of Tables.

Task Templates

Ten task templates have been added to Multivariate Calculus and Linear Algebra.

Multivariate Calculus - Five new task templates for visualizing regions of integration in multiple integrals have been added to the Multivariate Calculus section of the Task Template browser. Given a multiple integral, the region over which it integrates is drawn: in 2-D, double integrals in polar and Cartesian coordinates; and in 3-D triple integrals in Cartesian, cylindrical, and spherical coordinates.

Linear Algebra - Separate task templates have been provided in Linear Algebra for the nullity and the four fundamental subspaces connected with a matrix.

The Maple Task Browser table of contents has been reorganized in a more logical fashion for the Algebra, Calculus, and Linear Algebra task templates. Calculus has been subdivided into differential, integral, multivariate, and vector calculus, with logical subgroupings within each discipline. Linear Algebra is subdivided into Vector manipulations, Matrix manipulations, and visualizations. Algebra now includes the subsection Defining Expressions, Functions, and Procedures, relocating those templates from the Calculus section.
