Student[Precalculus]

 Midpoint
find the midpoint of a line segment

 Calling Sequence Midpoint(p1, p2)

Parameters

p1 - an n-element list or Vector specifying a point p2 - an n-element list or Vector specifying a point

Description

 • The command Midpoint(p1, p2) computes the midpoint of the line segment joining p1 and p2.
 • p1 and p2 must specify points of the same dimensionality (and orientation, when each of the points is a Vector).
 • This command is part of the Student[Precalculus] package, so it can be used in the form Midpoint(..) only after executing the command with(Student[Precalculus]).  However, it can always be used in the form Student[Precalculus][Midpoint](..).

Examples

 > $\mathrm{with}\left(\mathrm{Student}:-\mathrm{Precalculus}\right):$
 > $\mathrm{Midpoint}\left(\left[0,0\right],\left[1,1\right]\right)$
 $\left[\frac{{1}}{{2}}{,}\frac{{1}}{{2}}\right]$ (1)
 > $\mathrm{Midpoint}\left(\left[0,1,2\right],⟨1,2,3⟩\right)$
 $\left[\frac{{1}}{{2}}{,}\frac{{3}}{{2}}{,}\frac{{5}}{{2}}\right]$ (2)
 > $\mathrm{Midpoint}\left(⟨\mathrm{a1},\mathrm{b1}⟩,⟨\mathrm{a2},\mathrm{b2}⟩\right)$
 $\left[\begin{array}{c}\frac{{1}}{{2}}{}{\mathrm{a1}}{+}\frac{{1}}{{2}}{}{\mathrm{a2}}\\ \frac{{1}}{{2}}{}{\mathrm{b1}}{+}\frac{{1}}{{2}}{}{\mathrm{b2}}\end{array}\right]$ (3)
