Working with Plot Window Configurations

Plot windows are collections of simulation graphs that are laid out in a grid in the Simulation Results tab of the Analysis window.

The Plot Windows palette for your model lists plot windows for your model. The Plot Windows palette is accessible from the Simulation Results tab.

After running a simulation, the default plot windows are:

•

Probe Plots (assuming the model contains at least one probe)

•

Solver Diagnostics (if Solver Diagnostics is selected in the Advanced Simulation Settings of the Settings tab)

In addition, for 3-D models, select the 3-D Playback Window tab.

You can create new plot window configurations.  For details, see Generating a New Plot Window Configuration.  Use plot window configurations to:

•

Plot any variable in your model, not just probed variables.

•

Compare multiple simulation runs.

•

Compare simulations of different models.

To show a plot window:

1.

Expand either Probe Plots or Solver Diagnostics from the Plot Windows palette of the Simulation Results tab.

2.

Double-click the plot to display the plot in the plot window pane on the right side of the Simulations Results window.

To hide a plot window do one of the following:

1.

Right-click (Control-click for Macintosh) the name of the plot window in the Plot Windows palette, and select Toggle Visibility.

2.

The plot window is now hidden. To display the plot window, repeat step 1.

To rename a plot window:

1.

Right-click the name of the plot window in the Plot Windows palette, and select Rename.

2.

Enter a new name.

To add a plot to an existing plot window configuration:

1.

In the Plot Windows palette of the Simulation Results tab, select the plot window to which you want to add a plot.

2.

Select a variable from the Variables palette of the Simulation Results tab.  (For details, see Using the Variables Palette in Simulation Results Tab.)

3.

Press Shift and click the Create New Plot button ( ).  The new plot is appended to the end of the current plot window.

Note:  You cannot add a new plot to Probe Plots (or other automatically generated plot windows such as Solver Diagnostics).  In that case, you must first duplicate the plot window ( ).

To show or hide a plot in a plot window configuration:

•

Right-click the name of the plot in the Plot Windows palette, and select Toggle Visibility.

To rename a plot in a plot window:

1.

Right-click the name of the plot in the Plot Windows palette, and select Rename.

2.

Enter a new name.

To delete a plot window or a plot in a plot window:

•

Right-click the name of the plot window or the plot in the Plot Windows palette, and select Delete.

Note: If you delete the Probe Plots, you can regenerate them by right-clicking on a simulation result in the Stored Results palette and selecting Show Probe Plots.

Note: Plot window configurations are saved when you save the model.  However, if you have not saved any simulation results, when you reopen the model and the simulation results tab, there will be no data available to plot until you run a simulation.  To avoid this, save Latest Results before closing your model.  See Saving Simulation Results.
