Adding Headers and Footers to a Maple Document
You can display headers at the top of each page and footers at the bottom of each page in your Maple document. You can display predefined headers and footers (for example, headers or footers that display the date and page numbers on each page) or customize the text displayed in your headers and footers.
Note: Headers and footers are only available in the Standard interface. They cannot be displayed in worksheets opened in the Classic interface.

Previewing and Printing Your Document with Headers and Footers
From the Insert menu, select Header Footer.
Click the Predefined Header and Footer tab.
If you want to add a predefined header, select a format from the Header drop-down list. If you want to add a predefined footer, select a format from the Footer drop-down list. The following formats are available for both headers and footers:
, Date, Page: The current date is displayed in the center of the header or footer and the page number is displayed on the right.
, Page, Date: The page number is displayed in the center of the header or footer and the current date is displayed on the right.
, , Page 1 of ?: The text Page x of y is displayed on the right side of the header or footer, where x is the sequential number of the page and y is the total number of pages in the document.
In the Custom Header or Custom Footer tabs, you can define a header or footer.
Headers and footers have three sections: left, center, and right. You can display different content in each section.
Click the Custom Header tab if you want to define a header or click the Custom Footer tab if you want to define a footer.
Click the field of the section in which you want to display the content. For example, if you want to insert content on the right side of the header or footer, click the Right field.
Click the button that corresponds to the content type you want to insert.
The following are the buttons available for automatic insertion of header or footer content:
Insert Date: The current date is displayed.
Insert Page: The page number is displayed.
Insert Number of Pages: The total number of pages in the document is displayed. This is the number of pages that will be printed; not the number of page breaks you have inserted.
Insert Picture: Insert an image file. See the Adding an Image to a Custom Header or Footer section for details.
Insert File Name: The name of the file, whether or not the file has been saved, is displayed without its file extension. You can add the file extension by typing .mw immediately after the &[File] tag.
A tag is displayed in the field when the content has been inserted. You can later move, edit, or delete the tag.
Alternatively, you can add custom text to headers and footers by typing it in the field for the appropriate section.
Adding an Image to a Custom Header or Footer
Click the field for the section of the header or footer in which you want to display the image (left, center, or right).
Click the Insert Picture button.
Browse to and select the image file.
The tag &[Picture] is displayed in the indicated part of the header or footer definition.
Click the Print Preview button to view the picture in the document and scale as necessary.
You can display one image in each of the three sections. The image will automatically be scaled to fit the page width and margin height. If you want a custom scale, click the Options button and change the Scale Image percentage.
Specifying the Date Format and Image Scale Options For a Custom Header or Footer
If you insert an image or date in your header or footer, the Options... button opens a new dialog box in which you can specify the following options:
Date Format: Select one of the following formats:
Medium (default). 15-Nov-2007 (This may vary by platform.)
Long. November 15, 2007
Full. Thursday, November 15, 2007
Scale Image (%): Percent to scale any images added to the header or footer.
Options are set separately for the header and the footer. For example, the options set for the header will apply to all sections of the header, but do not affect the footer.
To apply your header or footer to all documents:
Click the Apply Globally check box.
Selecting this box makes the current header/footer apply to any document printed in this session and future sessions, unless it already has a defined header/footer.
To remove the global definition, open the header/footer dialog and select None for both header and footer, and check Apply Globally.
To edit the global definition, open the header/footer dialog, make the desired edits to the header or footer, and check Apply Globally.
The global setting only applies to documents that do not already have a header/footer definition. Header/footer definitions are saved with individual documents. Thus, any document saved previously with a header/footer keeps that header/footer unless you manually edit it. This is also true for documents with header/footers saved with a previous globally applied header/footer.
Note: Global header/footer definitions are not applied to documents downloaded from the MapleCloud.
Using buttons in the Header and Footer dialog box, you can print or preview your document with the most recent changes to the headers and footers.
The Print Preview button opens the print preview window, with the most recent changes displayed.
The Print button opens the usual print dialog, and you can print part or all of the document.
Note: On Macintosh operating systems, no Print Preview button is available in the Header and Footer dialog box. To preview your changes, click the Print button and then click Print Preview in the print dialog box.
