GUI Improvements in Maple 7

Maple 7 includes a number of new features and improvements to the graphical user interface.

Unit Converter

MathML Connectivity

Vector Palette

Restart and Execute Worksheet Buttons

Command Completion

Unit Converter

The Unit Converter is a dialog box that works as an interface to the new Units package. The dialog box provides an easy-to-use environment for exploring the power of the Maple Units package. The Unit Converter dialog box interprets the requested conversion and, depending on the options selected, inserts the appropriate command in Maple.

For more information, see the Units package and Unit Converter.

MathML Connectivity

MathML support has been introduced to increase connectivity with Web pages and other files that may be using MathML. Maple adds the following MathML capabilities:

•

The ability to export a worksheet to HTML using MathML to represent the formatted mathematical output instead of gifs, whenever possible. Note: Gifs are only used when the expression cannot be represented in MathML (for example, procedures). For more information, see Export to HTML with MathML and the MathML package.

•

If a MathML-encoded expression is copied from a Web page, it can be pasted into Maple to automatically form a valid Maple expression.  For more information, see Paste MathML-encoded Expressions.

•

The ability to translate a given Maple expression into MathML by using Maple's context-sensitive menus. For more information, see Copy as MathML.

•

MathML, as a standard, is still in its early stages. It will take time before applications fully comply and for it to fulfill its true potential for offering seamless Web connectivity and operatability between applications. With Maple 7, we have tried our best to provide an implementation that complies to the standard as it existed at the time of development, and to provide the necessary tools to help you benefit from this existing standard immediately. For the latest information on MathML, and to get useful applets and other components to take advantage of the standard, visit http://www.maplesoft.com/standards/MathML/info.html. We will maintain this page with all of the latest developments.

Vector Palette

A Vector Palette has been added to the Maple family of palettes to increase the ease of inserting Vectors into a Maple worksheet. Users can insert Vectors without needing to know the syntax of the Vector command.

For more information, see Vector and Using the Vector Palette.

Restart and Execute Worksheet Buttons

Restart and Execute Worksheet buttons have been added to make it easier to execute these commonly used commands. For more information, see Worksheet Toolbar and Context Bar.

Command Completion

The Complete Command feature enables the user to ask Maple to try to complete the command that has been started. Command completion is activated by choosing Complete Command from the Edit menu, or by entering one of the following shortcut keys (on Windows or UNIX):

•

F6

•

Ctrl + Space

For more information, see Shortcut Key Summary and Complete Command.
