Maple Player for iPad
The Maple Player is a free application for the iPad that lets you view and interact with documents created in desktop Maple. It takes advantage of the powerful Maple computation engine, so you can enter values, move sliders, and click buttons to perform new calculations and visualize the results. You can even rotate 3-D plots with a brush of your fingertips!
This first release of the Maple Player for iPad comes with a collection of interactive calculators and conceptual explorations to demonstrate the capabilities of the technology. With the Maple Player, you can:
- Find solutions to integrals, derivatives, and limits
- Visualize the methods for finding the area of a circle and the volume of a cylinder
- Understand the definition of limit
- Plot arbitrary functions
- Calculate solutions to linear systems
- And more!
These documents can be used to liven up a classroom and provide additional insight to students outside of class.
The Maple Player for iPad will evolve quickly. Today, it can be used with the sample documents that are bundled with the application. In the next phase, you will be able to access a much wider collection of documents dynamically from an online repository. Ultimately, you will be able to use any Maple document on the iPad, whether distributed by us, contributed by the Maple community, or authored by you.

Game-Changing Hockey Sticks with Help from MapleSim

The frequent breakage of composite ice hockey sticks is common. Not only does it drastically change the game at the professional level, but also leads to exorbitant costs. Hockey Robotics is a company that has pioneered the concept of robotic testing for the hockey industry. The team manufactured the SlapShot XT, a dynamic hockey stick robot. It's integrated advanced electronics and software allows the gathering of data never seen before, enabling detailed analysis to support refinements in hockey stick design.
MapleSim played a critical role in the design and development of the SlapShot XT. MapleSim allowed Hockey Robotics to efficiently and accurately simulate the coupled dynamic electrical and mechanical behavior of the equipment. MapleSim enabled the concurrent study of the flexible body deformation and rigid body motion of the machines, which is a very difficult, time-consuming, and error-prone task when done by hand. It also allowed them to quickly prototype the designs and investigate the coupled motion of the mechanisms very easily.

We have just released a new Maplesoft Books section on our website. These pages give details on books that feature Maplesoft products. The pages have a new look, highlight featured publications, and it is now a lot easier to browse and search for books that involve Maplesoft products.

We would also like to hear from authors who are writing books that involve Maple, MapleSim, or any of our other products. SAE Webinar: Physical Models of Automotive Batteries for EV and HEV Applications
Tuesday, November 29th at 10:00 am ET
This webinar covers new approaches to modeling and simulation for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and fully electric vehicle (EV) applications with particular emphasis on the development of high fidelity physical models of automotive batteries. Developed as part of the research program for the NSERC/Toyota/Maplesoft Industrial Research Chair for Mathematics-based Modeling and Design, these models will plug into comprehensive system models for HEV and EV applications. Conventional lead-acid, but also NiMH and Lithium battery models will be presented.
