News & Announcements

DynaFlexPro/Tire Module DynaFlexPro
is a very effective tool for creating efficient models and simulations
of complex mechanical systems, such as mechanisms, robots, and
machinery. With the DynaFlexPro/Tire Module, an optional add-on
package to DynaFlexPro, the range of applications is further increased
to include vehicles. The generation of efficient models and real-time
simulations will facilitate the development of new vehicle designs,
including active sub-systems and their electronic controllers.

Global
Optimization with Maple E-Book This electronic
book presents Maple as an advanced model development
and optimization environment. A special emphasis is placed
on solving multiextremal models, using the Global Optimization
Toolbox™ for Maple™. Following a brief topical
introduction, an extensive collection of detailed numerical
examples and illustrative case studies is presented.

New
Version of BlockBuilder for Simulink® Can Handle
Models from Third-Party Products like DynaFlexPro With
BlockBuilder 1.1 and DynaFlexPro 2.3, you can now develop
very efficient,
high-fidelity models of mechanical systems for use with
Simulink, Real-Time Workshop and your HIL test systems.
The major enhancement to Version 1.1
of BlockBuilder for Simulink is the ability to handle
models from third-party products.
In particular, this allows models that have been created
in DynaFlexPro to be automatically converted to a Simulink
S-function. If you are modeling multi-body mechanical
systems using DynaFlexPro, you can now quickly generate
Simulink blocks that are ready for real-time implementation,
using Real-Time Workshop.

New Product Mechanics of Materials Offers Solutions
to Linear and Elastic Beam Bending Problems Using
Maple’s powerful math engine, problem specifications
can be formulated in numeric or symbolic form, offering
graphical and analytical solutions for beam sections
with up to 100 separate segments. The functions yield
impressive graphics and detailed analytical solutions,
ideal for education and training applications.

Maplesoft in the Press
Maplesoft continues to receive much
press. Recently there has been coverage in Campus Technology,
an article in UniversityBusiness and a review of Maple
10 in Cadalyst.

Cadalyst Magazine, July 2006
First Look Review: Maple 10
Maple 10 is “Highly recommended”
Mike Hudspeth of Cadalyst Magazine has just published
a new review of Maple 10. In his review he “highly
recommends” Maple 10 stating that “it's the
last math program you'll likely ever need.” He
writes about its ease of use, knowledge capture, and
functions like the Maple Calculator and the Symbol Writer, “Maple
Calculator is like the Windows calculator -- on steroids.
It uses the Maple 10 core, so it's got enough horsepower
to get you what you need.” He also stated “Literally
thousands of mathematical symbols are available in Maple
10 … And if you can't find the symbol you're looking
for, Maple 10 has a truly innovative way to help you
-- the Symbol Writer. It's a menu window where you write
or draw the symbol you want. Below your graphic, a couple
of guesses appear of what Maple 10 thinks might fit the
bill. You merely select the one you want. |
University Business, July 2006
More than a Numbers Game
“ Don't just give students basic
chunks of knowledge. They need greater
motivation.”
Tom Lee recently attended and judged
the national FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science
and Technology) Competition, a multinational robotics competition
that teams professionals and young people to solve an engineering
design problem in an intense and competitive way. In this
article Lee writes about the importance of competitions like
FIRST and how schools can draw from a range of tools and
resources to help “streamline knowledge” and “establish
real context and relevance to engineering.”

Improving the Administration of Mathematics Placement
Tests
By Scott Sutherland, Director of Undergraduate Studies in
Mathematics, SUNY Stony Brook
“Stony Brook wanted to be able to administer the placement
test before the students came to orientation and they wanted
the students to be as prepared as possible. Maplesoft’s
Maple T.A. addressed all of these issues by automating the
entire process, from assessment to diagnostics, enabling the
placement test to be done anytime, anywhere.”
