At the SAE World Congress, Maplesoft and Partners Will Demonstrate the Importance of System-Level Modeling in the Engineering Toolchain

Waterloo, Canada; 12 April 2013: Maplesoft and its partners will be participating in the SAE World Congress at the Cobo Centre, Detroit, from 16th to 18th of April, 2013. They will demonstrate a host of connectivity options that make it possible to seamlessly integrate system-leveling modeling into the engineering toolchain.

Attendees are invited to the following events:

MapleSim Solutions Forum
8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Wednesday April 17, 2013
Suite M2-30 (2nd level of the Cobo Centre at the top of the escalators near the main entrance)

MapleSim, the advanced system-leveling modeling tool from Maplesoft, incorporates the most recent progress in design technology to offer a modern approach to physical modeling and simulation. It is exceedingly rare for an engineering design project to involve only a single tool. That’s why MapleSim offers a host of connectivity options that make it possible to seamlessly integrate system-leveling modeling into the engineering toolchain. Attendees will have the chance to hear from some of Maplesoft’s partners including Noesis Solutions, VI-Grade and JSOL, discuss how integration with MapleSim benefits their customers, learn about options for their own projects, and talk to others about their experiences with system-level modeling and toolchain integration.

Throughout the day, each organization will present its solutions live. The presentation agenda is attached.

Maplesoft Evening Networking Event & Cocktail Reception
6:00 pm, Wednesday, April 17, 2013
Suite M2-30

This will be a great opportunity for guests to find out more about the critical importance of system-level modeling for the automotive industry, learn about the many ways system modeling can be incorporated into current toolchains, and meet peers who share the same interest in innovative automotive design techniques. Whether the goal is to stay on top of the latest developments or share ideas and concerns, this event will provide networking opportunities that will help attendees stay at the forefront of modeling innovation.

Paper Presentation - Paul Goossens, Vice President, Applications Engineering, Maplesoft with Avesta Goodarzi, University of Waterloo
10:20 am, Wednesday, April 17, 2013
Room: D0-02A
Session code: B101; CAD/CAM/CAE Technology (Part 1 of 2)
Full-Vehicle Model Development for Prediction of Fuel Consumption

Presentation schedule for the MapleSim Solutions Forum at SAE World Congress 2013:

9:00 – 9:30 am
The Importance of System-Level Modeling in your Toolchain
Paul Goossens, Maplesoft

10:00 – 10:30 am
High-Fidelity Electric Motor Simulation with JMAG-RT and MapleSim
Tetsuo Ogawa, Powersys Solutions

Testing embedded software for electric motor engine control units introduces new challenges, such as increased simulation speed and model fidelity, that cannot be addressed by traditional software-in-the-loop testing methods. Learn how Maplesoft and JSOL Corporation have partnered to address these new challenges by creating an industry-leading electric motor simulation platform.

11:00 – 11:30 am
Optimus Steers Multi-Domain System Simulation Towards Optimized HEV Design
Mike Nieburg, Noesis

A leading car maker relies on Optimus for the development of a new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), targeting better economy and lower environmental impact. The Optimus design optimization and process integration software successfully responds to the engineering complexity that arises from the combined electric and conventional vehicle propulsion. With MapleSim mastering HEV modeling and Optimus controlling simulation workflow execution, design optimization only lasted two weeks.

1:00 – 1:30 pm
A Platform for Deployable Physical Models: Model-Based Systems Engineering with Modelica and FMI
John Batteh, Modelon

The development and adoption of open standards is rapidly increasing across government, academic, and industrial applications. This talk focuses on two open formats for model-based systems engineering of complex cyberphysical systems: the Modelica modeling language and the Functional Mockup Interface (FMI) for model exchange and cosimulation. This talk will provide an overview of the FMI standard, the benefits of FMI for systems engineering, and sample FMI applications and workflows. Relevant applications will be presented to illustrate industrial applications of these technologies.

2:00 – 2:30 pm
Challenges and Solutions for Modern Engineering Educators
Tim Vrablik, Maplesoft

Advanced physical modeling and simulation technology, such as MapleSim from Maplesoft, offers increased capabilities for educators, and is also easy and intuitive enough to be used by undergrads so they can gain greater insight into the nature of physical systems. This presentation will illustrate how you can reinforce engineering concepts using a combination of theory, simulation, and hardware and show how the math can be used in a more meaningful way.

3:00 – 3:30 pm
VI-Grade Presents the MapleSim Connector for VI-CarRealTime™
Patrick McNally, VI-Grade

The MapleSim Connector for VI-CarRealTime™ allows engineers to incorporate high-fidelity, multidomain models created in MapleSim into the real-time vehicle simulation environment of VI-CarRealTime. The combination of MapleSim, VI-CarRealTime and the Connector allows for the fast, accurate modeling of automotive subsystems, such as powertrains and drivelines.
